Wonderful Stuff - Miscellaneous Musings - Silly Pet Stuff - Weird Stuff
Our friends Steve and Libby Bodio post cool pictures of their awesome hunting dogs - lurchers, tazis and miniature dachsund - so we thought we'd counter the coolness with some silliness, our border collie Rob's usual mode-du-jour. And no, he was not supposed to sleep on the sofa. Rob passed away, well over 16 years of happy age, in May 2007. RIP, buddy.
We've always been committed to environmental and cultural conservation - especially when the two are linked together. To us, people and nature are not separate, much as modern urban-based environmentalism might insist.

As much as possible we volunteer with various conservation efforts. Here are links to our current projects and passions.

We teach animal tracking for Sky Island Alliance's Wildlife Monitoring Program; Roseann also does communications work for this group, and also was SIA's executive director for two years.
Hunters and anglers were among the original proponents of the Wilderness Act. We became founding members of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers because they get it. Their tag line says it all: Solitude - Tradition - Challenge - Freedom - Health - Family.
Arizona Open Land Trust has been quietly protecting family lands for more than 27 years in southern Arizona. They were instrumental in helping to pass the largest open space bond in the history of Pima County. We salute them!
For 25 years the Centro de Estudio de Desiertos y Oceanos has been dedicated to education, adventure and research exploring and protecting the desert and sea in Sonora, Mexico. We've been involved as U.S. sponsors for the Whistling Thorn Camp Project since 2005. Based in northern Tanzania, this cultural and environmental conservation project is very exciting for us - we are leading safaris to the project site in each year.
Roseann is now the executive director of the African Conservation Fund, which raises resources and awareness for community-based conservation efforts in East Africa.
Exploring the world by remote backroad is one of our favorite adventure activities. We're lucky to have friends Scott and Stephanie Brady who run Expeditions West, a fantastic web resource for adventure, exploration, and discovery by 4x4 (especially Toyotas!). Be sure to check out this great site.
Jonathan's new magazine, founded with friends Scott Brady and Chris Marzonie. North America's first magazine - a quarterly journal - dedicated to exploring the world by the road less traveled.
